This project represented a full-scale transformation of a dated back-split semi-detached home into a modern, turnkey residence. What was once a modest entry-level property was reimagined through a comprehensive renovation strategy that addressed layout flow, finishes, mechanical systems, and long-term durability—while preserving the home’s inherent strengths, including its split-level design and walk-out lower level.

Original Condition & Design Challenges

Prior to renovation, the home featured a functional but tired interior with limited visual cohesion. Finishes were dated, bathrooms were basic, and the kitchen lacked both aesthetic appeal and efficiency. While the original layout offered an open-concept main floor and a walk-out lower level, these assets were underutilized due to aging materials, inconsistent lighting, and worn mechanical systems. The home was positioned as a starter property rather than a long-term residence.

Renovation Scope & Design Intent

The renovation was approached holistically, with the goal of delivering a fully move-in-ready home that felt cohesive, contemporary, and significantly elevated in both appearance and performance. Rather than cosmetic updates alone, the project focused on upgrading the building envelope, mechanical systems, and interior architecture simultaneously.

Interior Transformation

The main living areas were fully reworked to create a brighter, more refined open-concept environment. New luxury vinyl plank flooring was installed throughout, providing continuity across levels while improving durability and ease of maintenance. Updated lighting layouts enhanced ceiling planes and eliminated dark zones, fundamentally changing how the space was experienced.

The kitchen was completely rebuilt and repositioned as the visual and functional heart of the home. Custom blue cabinetry paired with gold hardware and fixtures introduced a bold yet timeless design statement. Integrated, built-in appliances and clean-lined surfaces delivered a high-end aesthetic that contrasted sharply with the original utilitarian kitchen. Sightlines were improved to better connect the kitchen with adjacent living and dining spaces.

Both bathrooms were fully renovated from the studs outward. The updated designs featured ceramic tile, modern vanities, black and brushed metal fixtures, and glass-enclosed showers, transforming previously basic rooms into spa-inspired spaces. Material selections emphasized longevity and visual clarity, with neutral palettes balanced by strong contrast elements.

Lower Level Reconfiguration

The lower level underwent a significant upgrade, shifting from a secondary, underwhelming recreation space into a bright, comfortable extension of the home. A new full bathroom was added, and the walk-out connection to the fenced backyard was preserved and enhanced, reinforcing indoor–outdoor flow. This level now functions equally well as a family room, guest area, or flexible living zone.

Mechanical & Exterior Upgrades

Beyond finishes, all major mechanical and exterior components were addressed. The home received a newer roof, furnace, and air conditioning system, along with all new windows and doors. Soffit, fascia, eavestroughs, and exterior lighting were replaced to improve both performance and curb appeal. These upgrades ensured that the renovation delivered not only visual impact but long-term peace of mind.

Final Result

The completed home bears little resemblance to its original condition. What began as a modest, entry-level back-split was transformed into a fully modernized residence suitable for first-time buyers, downsizers, or investors seeking a true turnkey property.
